Planting Service

Planting Long Leaf Pine SeedlingsPlanting season for containerized seedlings is October 1 through April 30, with the optimum time frame being  October 1 through early December. Early planting affords a longer growth period while availing the seedlings to autumn's humidity and moisture.  Both factors promote hearty, established root systems to support spring's accelerated growth, thus improving significantly the seedlings' survival rate.

In addition to growing seedlings, F.B. Whitfield Farms and Nursery provides planting and spraying services to assist you in yielding a high stand.

Planting Services

A plugs' planting depth contributes to seedling stand and yield.  F.B. Whitfield Farms and Nursery uses the Tree Master, a custom-built three-row tree planter which allows for more effective planting depth in all types of soil.  The Tree Master allows the staff to adapt the depth of the plug to soil conditions, yielding a higher stand.

In addition to compliance with the State Forestry Commission's recommended planting guidelines, F.B. Whitfield Farms and Nursery works with state advisors through private and government programs like CRP (Conservation Resource Programs) which uses property profiling to make recommendations to the planters and land owners on soil preparation and land mapping. We stay within the tried, true and tested results of state organizations and private consultants so that the highest yield and survival rate is accomplished.

F. B. Whitfield Farms & Nursery has over 20 years of experience in growing various containerized crops. Having grown containerized Longleaf Pine Seedlings in 1996, our goal is to grow the best seedlings while providing the best service.

Spraying

F.B. Whitfield Farms & Nursery sprays for weed and grass control. Longleaf pines do not like to compete with the insurgence of foreign grasses and weeds. Band spraying results in higher stands.

Planting and Spraying fees are determined by each job, using several factors: driving distance, acreage, and time.
