At
F.B. Whitfield Farms & Nursery we use state
of the art
growing
techniques
to produce the best containerized pine seedlings.
In addition to growing each seedling in copper
coated trays, applying
Mycorrhizal fungi, we tailor our fertilizer
applications to growing conditions while controlling watering.
The F.B. Whitfield Farms & Nursery staff daily monitors
seedling growth and weather conditions for determining
the proper distribution amount
of fertilizer
and water. We use Mycorrhizal fungi
which aids
the root system's
ability to take in water and food by 10 to 1,000 times.
|
| Mycorrhizal Fungi strengthen
plants' immune systems while emitting chemicals into the soil
to unlock micro
- nutrients
such as iron and phosphorus. The Mycorrhizal Fungi produce organic "glues" that
make the soil more clumpy and porous, improving its structure
and resiliency. |
F. B.
Whitfield Farms & Nursery uses copper
coated trays to promote root
growth the entire length of the cell depth of the
trays. Every planting the staff sprays the trays with copper
solution.
The
copper coating prunes the roots so that the roots themselves
do not form a cage - with a larger amount of the roots on the
outside and bottom and few on the innner part of the plug. Copper
coated trays produce root growth throughout the whole plug
length which yields a better root system and higher
stand.

the Forestry Commission and various University research programs
to grow the
seedlings.
